Market outlook
Stable Outlook 7/10
The card benefits from enduring character demand and iconic early-set status, but reprints and broad set availability keep it from accelerating aggressively in the near term. Prices tend to be supported by collectors rather than short-term speculators alone, which usually produces a stable to slowly rising long-term profile.
Next months. Likely to remain range-bound with modest movement unless a major One Piece market surge or scarcity spike occurs.
Long term. Over 1-3 years, high-grade and clean raw copies should generally hold value well and may appreciate gradually, especially if early One Piece product becomes harder to find unopened.
History
Monkey D. Luffy is the protagonist of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece and one of the most recognizable characters in modern manga/anime. In the One Piece Card Game, Luffy is a flagship character for the franchise and heavily supported in multiple color/archetype identities. This particular card represents Luffy from the early Romance Dawn era of the game, where the character appears as a core red Super Rare with strong Straw Hat Crew / Supernovas synergy.
First released in Japan in the Romance Dawn (OP01) set on July 8, 2022; English release followed in the international One Piece Card Game rollout later in 2022/2023 depending on region. The alternate art version is from the same OP01 release window and is the original printing for this specific alt-art variant.
- OP01-024 is the standard Super Rare Luffy from Romance Dawn, while the alternate-art version is the chase version collectors typically seek.
- The card has a strong competitive identity because it is a 2-cost 3000 Power red character with DON!!-based acceleration and anti-Strike battle protection.
- This card was later reprinted in One Piece The Best (PRB01) in alt-art form, which increased availability of some Luffy variants but did not fully replace demand for the original Romance Dawn alt art.

Collector notes
Condition. Check for centering, edge whitening, surface scratches, holo scuffs, corner wear, and print lines on the alternate-art foil. English One Piece cards can show edge chipping and minor surface imperfections straight from pack due to the glossy finish. On raw copies, look closely at the black border, the portrait area, and the text box for scratches or roller marks.
Storage. Store in a penny sleeve and rigid top loader or semi-rigid holder immediately, especially for alt-art copies. Keep away from humidity and heat, and use outer sleeves or team bags for added protection. For valuable copies, avoid repeated handling and consider grading if the card is clean and well-centered.
Authenticity. Verify the correct texture, font sharpness, color saturation, and back print quality against known authentic One Piece Card Game cards. Counterfeits often have blurry text, incorrect foil pattern, dull colors, or off-sized borders. Compare the card number, set symbols, copyright line, and holo pattern to confirmed authentic examples. For expensive raw or graded copies, buy from reputable sellers and verify slab certification details when applicable.
