Market outlook
Stable Outlook 7/10
The card has enduring character demand and strong recognizable artwork, but its price is moderated by ongoing supply from a large modern print era. High-grade copies should remain relatively resilient, while raw and lower-grade copies may move mostly with overall One Piece TCG demand and set nostalgia.
Next months. Likely to trade in a relatively tight range unless a major One Piece market spike or new Luffy-related hype event occurs.
Long term. Over 1-3 years, strong high-grade copies and sealed-condition specimens should hold value well, with gradual appreciation possible if OP-05 becomes a defining early-era set for English One Piece collectors.
History
Monkey D. Luffy is the protagonist of the One Piece manga and anime franchise created by Eiichiro Oda. He is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates and one of the most recognizable characters in modern pop culture and trading cards. This card depicts Luffy in his Gear 5/Nika form, the awakened state of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, which is a major narrative turning point in One Piece and a highly significant reveal for the character's power level and symbolism.
First released in English in the One Piece Card Game set Awakening of the New Era (OP-05), published by Bandai in 2023. The card number provided, OP05-060, corresponds to the Alt Art Leader version of Monkey.D.Luffy from that set.
- This is a Leader card, which is central to One Piece Card Game deck construction and gameplay identity.
- The Alt Art version is significantly more collectible than the standard Leader print due to its enhanced artwork and lower availability.
- Monkey D. Luffy is one of the flagship chase characters across the One Piece TCG market, with strong demand from both players and collectors.

Collector notes
Condition. Check for whitening on corners and edges, surface scratches visible under angled light, print lines, centering, and wear along the borders of the foil Alt Art finish. Leader cards are often handled more during gameplay, so edge wear and surface scuffing are common. For graded candidates, look closely for factory dings, roller marks, and any warping.
Storage. Use a penny sleeve plus a rigid top loader or card saver for raw copies, and keep the card away from humidity and direct sunlight. For higher-end copies, consider immediate grading or long-term storage in a magnetic case with a perfect-fit sleeve. Avoid mixing with textured or glossy foils that can scratch each other.
Authenticity. Verify crisp print quality, correct Bandai/One Piece Card Game back design, and consistent foil patterning. Counterfeits may have blurry text, off-color borders, incorrect font spacing, or poor foil alignment. Compare against known authentic scans, and for premium copies prefer sealed sourcing or third-party grading from graded, graded, or graded.
