Market outlook
Rising Outlook 7/10
High demand for graded copies, limited supply, and strong collector interest in Mega Evolution-themed cards drive upward momentum.
Next months. Prices expected to rise moderately over the next 3–6 months as graded sales increase and ungraded copies stabilize.
Long term. 1–3 year outlook is bullish, with potential for significant appreciation in high-grade copies due to scarcity and collector demand.
History
Mega Gengar ex is the Mega Evolution of Gengar, a dark/poison-type Pokémon known for its sinister grin and ability to trap victims in nightmares. In the Pokémon TCG, it represents the climax of the Mega Evolution mechanic, emphasizing high HP and devastating attack power in exchange for not being able to attack immediately after Mega Evolving. Its 'ex' designation marks it as a premium card in the modern era, featuring full art and secret rare status.
The first official printing of Mega Gengar ex as a 269/217 Full Art Secret Rare was released in the 'ME: Ascended Heroes' (ASC) set in 2026. A previous version, M Gengar EX #121 (Phantom Forces, 121/119), was released in 2014 as a Mega Secret Rare Holo XY.

Collector notes
Condition. Key flaws include edge whitening, corner dings, and surface scratches on the full art. Check for centering misalignment, print dots, or holographic defects. The card’s glossy finish is prone to scuffing if handled without care.
Storage. Store in a top loader with a soft sleeve inside, kept in a climate-controlled environment away from direct sunlight. Use a card box with tight seals to prevent moisture damage. Avoid stacking cards directly on top of each other.
Authenticity. Fakes often have blurred text, incorrect font sizes, or missing holographic patterns. Authenticate via graded, graded, or graded grading. Look for the 'ASC' set code and '269/217' numbering. Reprints may lack the full art texture or have duller colors.
