Market outlook

Stable Outlook 7/10

Recent market references show active sales around the high-$100s to low-$200s for graded and near-mint examples, suggesting a card that has already found an early equilibrium after release.[3][4]

Next months. Likely to trade sideways to slightly softer unless sustained chase demand continues.

Long term. Over 1-3 years, it has moderate upside if the set becomes harder to find sealed and Venusaur demand remains strong, but it is less likely to become a true blue-chip card than older vintage chase cards.

History

Mega Venusaur is the Mega Evolution form of Venusaur, the final evolution of Bulbasaur from the original Pokémon franchise. In the TCG, Mega Venusaur ex represents a Grass-type Stage 2 Mega Evolution Pokémon ex, and this card continues Venusaur’s long-running role as one of the franchise’s iconic Kanto starter final forms.[1]

This card was first released in the Japanese Mega Brave expansion and later in the English Mega Evolution expansion, which was first released on September 26, 2025 according to PriceCharting.[1][3]

  • The English card number 177/132 identifies it as a Secret Rare within the Mega Evolution set, despite also being described in listings as a Full Art ultra rare and special illustration rare variant in broader print-line coverage.[1][4]
  • The card’s main attack and ability are Solar Transfer and Jungle Dump, and its Mega Evolution ex rule means the opponent takes 3 Prize cards if it is Knocked Out.[1]
  • A separate alternate-art print of the regular card was distributed as a Black Star Promo in the Mega Venusaur ex Premium Collection, released November 14, 2025 in Europe and December 5, 2025 in the US.[1]

Collector notes

Condition. Check the typical high-wear areas for modern full-art/semi-secret cards: centering, corner whitening, edge wear, surface scratches, print lines, and factory dings. Because this is a premium chase card, visible scuffs on the holofoil or texture loss can significantly affect grade and resale value.

Storage. Store in a penny sleeve followed by a rigid top loader or graded slab, keep away from direct light and humidity, and avoid repeated handling because textured full-art surfaces can show fingerprints and micro-scratches easily.

Authenticity. Verify correct texture pattern, clean color saturation, crisp fonting, and consistent card stock thickness. Fakes often show flat or overly glossy foiling, blurry text, incorrect set numbering, poor centering, or mismatched holo patterns compared with authentic Pokémon TCG prints.
