Market outlook

Stable Outlook 7/10

Recent 10% dip after earlier 44% gain indicates stabilization post-hype, supported by consistent graded sales and 151 set enduring appeal[1][4].

Next months. Stable with minor fluctuations, potential uptick if 151 reprints avoided

Long term. Rising for high-grade copies due to Gen 1 starter prestige and Japanese rarity

History

Charmander is the Fire-type Pokémon from Generation 1, one of the original starter Pokémon alongside Bulbasaur and Squirtle. As a lizard-like creature with a flame on its tail that represents its life force, it evolves into Charmeleon and then Charizard, holding iconic status in Pokémon lore as a symbol of fiery determination and one of the most beloved starters.

First released in the Japanese Scarlet & Violet: 151 set on September 22, 2023, as part of a special edition reimagining the original 151 Pokémon with premium artwork[3][5].

  • This is a Special/Illustration Rare featuring unique artwork, only available in special products like booster boxes or collections, not standard booster packs[5].
  • Card stats: Basic Fire-type Pokémon with 70 HP and attack 'Blazing Destruction' that discards a Stadium card[6].
  • Part of the highly regarded Scarlet & Violet 151 set, often called one of the best of 2023 for its nostalgic appeal and chase cards[5].

Collector notes

Condition. Inspect centering on the vibrant illustration artwork, check for print lines or scratches on the flame tail details, edge wear from top loaders, and surface scratches common on glossy holo finish; avoid cards with centering under 55/45.

Storage. Store in semi-rigid top loaders or magnetic holders with sleeves, keep in cool dry place away from sunlight to prevent holo oxidation, use album pages for display but grade high-value copies.

Authenticity. Verify Japanese text and set markings match official 151 fonts, check holo pattern consistency under light (fakes often have blurry flames), use Pokémon official database or graded/graded population reports; cross-reference serial numbers on slabs.
