Market outlook
Stable Outlook 7/10
The base Leader version has broad availability, which usually limits explosive appreciation. However, the card benefits from persistent character demand, playable relevance, and steady collector interest in Luffy products. Alternate-art and high-grade copies should remain stronger than raw base copies.
Next months. Likely to remain stable with modest movement based on grading demand and overall One Piece market activity. Raw base copies should stay relatively inexpensive, while graded gem-mint copies may hold a small premium.
Long term. Over 1-3 years, base copies are likely to appreciate slowly at best unless sealed product becomes meaningfully more scarce or One Piece demand expands further. Alternate-art, promo, and top-graded copies have better long-term upside than the standard Leader print.
History
Monkey D. Luffy is the protagonist of One Piece, the globally popular manga/anime created by Eiichiro Oda. He is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates and one of the most recognizable characters in modern pop culture. In the One Piece Card Game, this Leader version represents Luffy as a purple-strategy captain focused on resource conversion, Life management, and DON!! acceleration, reflecting his high-tempo, explosive playstyle in-game.
First released in English and Japanese in Awakening of the New Era (OP05) on December 8, 2023. The base Leader card OP05-060 is from the main set; alternate-art and other promotional variants were released later through special products/promos.
- OP05-060 is a purple Leader with 5 Life and 5000 Power, making it one of the foundational purple Luffy Leaders from OP05.
- Its ability allows you to add a card from Life to hand once per turn, then gain DON!! under certain field conditions, which made it a competitive ramp/value leader.
- This card has multiple collectible variants, including Alternate Art and promo/stamped versions, and the alternate-art version is significantly more collectible than the base print.

Collector notes
Condition. Check for edge whitening, corner wear, surface scuffs, print lines, centering, and scratches in the foil or textured areas on full-art/alternate versions. On Leader cards, whitening along the black borders and edge chips are especially common. Keep an eye out for factory print defects such as roller lines, small indents, and off-center cuts.
Storage. Store in a penny sleeve and rigid top loader or semi-rigid holder immediately after opening. For long-term storage, use an inner sleeve plus graded slab or an airtight card saver box with low-humidity conditions. Avoid stacking, sunlight, and high heat, since purple full-art Leader cards can show surface wear easily.
Authenticity. Authentic One Piece cards should have crisp printing, consistent texture, and clean alignment of fonts, icons, and energy symbols. Compare the holo/texture pattern to verified copies, as fakes often have flat foiling, poor color saturation, incorrect font weight, or blurry text. For alternate art or promo versions, verify the correct set code, rarity marking, and any official promo stamp or special finish. High-value copies should be graded or authenticated if sold online.
