Shohei Ohtani is a Japanese professional baseball player for the Los Angeles Dodgers, renowned for his elite two-way ability as both a pitcher and hitter. He debuted in MLB in 2018 with the Los Angeles Angels, becoming the first Japanese player to win Rookie of the Year and be selected as an All-Star in his first season. He is a 2x MVP (2021, 2024) and one of the most iconic players in modern baseball history.
This card was first released in 2018 as part of the Topps Update Series honoring the 35th anniversary of the 1983 Topps design, specifically #83-2, featuring Ohtani as a rookie.
Condition. Check for centering, edge wear, and surface scratches. Common flaws include off-center printing, gum marks (if raw), and corner dings. Graded copies (graded 9/10) are rare due to high print volume.
Storage. Store in a hard plastic case or teammate sleeve, kept in a climate-controlled environment away from humidity and light. Use a top loader for display.
Authenticity. Fakes are unlikely due to the card's mass production, but confirm hologram labels on graded copies via graded's database. Reprints are not common; verify set designation and card number.
