History
Sabrina's Gengar is the signature Pokémon of Sabrina, the Psychic-type Gym Leader from Saffron City in the Pokémon universe, known as the 'Master of Dark Pokémon' in the Japanese Yamabuki City Gym storyline. This Stage 1 Ghost/Poison-type card (80 HP, Psychic weakness, Fighting resistance) features powerful attacks like Pain Amplifier and Call of the Night, reflecting her eerie, telekinetic theme.
First released in Japan in 1996 as part of the Pokémon Card Game 'Challenge from the Darkness' booster set, also known as Gym 2.
- Features the 'Banned Graveyard Artwork' variant, infamous for its dark, skeletal imagery that led to international bans and censorship in English prints.
- Banned in competitive play in Japan due to its overpowered 'Call of the Night' effect that could shuffle the opponent's Active Pokémon into their deck.
- One of the earliest Rare Holo cards from the Wizards of the Coast era precursors, highly sought by collectors for its cultural significance in Pokémon TCG history.

Collector notes
Condition. Check for centering issues on the holo pattern, edge whitening from age, surface scratches on the banned graveyard artwork, and print dots common in 1996 Japanese holos; graded 10s are extremely rare due to play wear.
Storage. Store in semi-rigid holders or top-loaders with sleeves in a cool, dry environment away from sunlight to prevent holo oxidation; use acid-free storage for long-term preservation.
Authenticity. Verify black market holo borders and font sharpness; fakes often have blurry artwork or incorrect energy symbols; authenticate via graded/graded grading or check for original Kreta printing marks on back.
