History

Bulbasaur is the Grass-type Grass/Poison dual-type Pokémon, the first in the Kanto Pokédex (#001), introduced in Pokémon Red and Green (1996). As a Seed Pokémon, it carries a symbiotic seed on its back that grows with it, evolving into Ivysaur and Venusaur. Iconic as one of the three official starter Pokémon alongside Charmander and Squirtle, it holds immense significance as a foundational mascot of the Pokémon franchise, symbolizing nature and growth.

First released in the Japanese Scarlet & Violet: Pokémon 151 set (SV2a) on September 22, 2023[3].

  • Bulbasaur's Art Rare features stunning full-art illustration, highly praised among collectors[7].
  • Part of the nostalgic Pokémon 151 set celebrating original Kanto Pokémon.
  • Secret rare numbering at 166/165 indicates extended art rarity.

Collector notes

Condition. Inspect centering on full-art borders, check for print lines or scratches on the intricate Bulbasaur illustration, edge whitening common on Japanese stock; surface holo scratches from shuffling.

Storage. Use semi-rigid top-loaders with sleeves, store in cool, dry environment away from sunlight to prevent holo fading; avoid stacking under heavy pressure.

Authenticity. Verify Japanese text and SV2a set markings, check holo pattern consistency; fakes often have blurry art or incorrect font weights; use graded or graded authentication for high-value grades.
